Play it again Sam

Casablanca, Thursday 15 October

I know those lines weren’t really said but actually it says it all. My information on Casablanca was that it was a dump. It is fair to say the township wasn’t pretty; it’s just that we got to see only the highlights and those were cool. One of which is a huge Mosque. That it was another Mosque didn’t light my fire nor did its size or decoration. What did was the mix of colours and architecture against the beautiful blue sky. It was a beautiful day and the surroundings were quite stunning.

It is a city of contrast, the wealthy live in very lovely Mediterranean style homes worth millions and the very poor live in filthy ghetto’s, one we saw was next to the rubbish dump, which is entirely practical I suppose and potentially where the satellite dishes that were on the top of every shack came from.

There are Rick’s Café’s everywhere and people on the street trying to tempt you into their very own Rick’s Café, that it didn’t exist here and that they still do it presumable means success. I had wanted a Rick’s tee shirt but it all became a bit hard. While there is plenty of cheap labour here to make clothes and I am sure they are well made, design and style will not be what I will remember about Morocco.

Pic is taken from the Mosque at Casablanca across to the point, the city runs between these points.
